🌍On International Women’s Day, we celebrate and thank the women who have helped change our world for the better.

🏡Locally, our own Fran Walker was recently given the British Empire Medal for her work helping young people and leading efforts to protect and restore the Priory Gatehouse in Worksop.

💜 Every day, women make a difference in our communities. They care for families, help others, lead projects, teach, volunteer, and work hard to make life better for the people around them. Today is a chance to say thank you for all that they do.

Today we pause for the COVID-19 Day of Reflection.💛

💛We remember the people who lost their lives, the families whose lives changed forever, and the communities that helped each other through a very hard time. We think about those who could not say goodbye to loved ones, and those who are still living with loss and sadness.

👏 We also remember the kindness we saw during the pandemic. Doctors, nurses, carers, volunteers, key workers, neighbours, friends, and families all stepped up to help others when it mattered most.

🤍 Today, take a moment to remember those affected. You might light a candle, share a memory, check in on someone who may be struggling, or simply take a quiet moment to think.

Together we remember. 🕯️

I met with the leadership of Nottinghamshire County Council today, alongside other Nottinghamshire MPs.

Working with the Government, MPs have secured a record increase in funding for road maintenance, rising from around £18 million to almost £50 million for Nottinghamshire. That’s a significant investment, and residents rightly expect to see real improvements as a result.

During the meeting we pressed the Council on several urgent issues, including the need for a clear plan to tackle the current crisis on our roads, better quality repairs that are done right first time, and a much improved system for residents to report potholes and road defects.

We also raised the frustration many people feel when a repair team fixes one pothole but leaves several others nearby untouched.

The Council confirmed that new road maintenance schemes will begin next week, with further plans for the years ahead. While steps such as new “first time” repair teams and trials of new repair technology are welcome, it’s clear that much more still needs to be done to restore confidence in the condition of our roads.

I’ll continue working with other MPS to hold the council to account and ensure this new funding delivers real, lasting improvements to our roads.
