It was lovely to cut the ribbon for the Misterton art group, Brushstrokes exhibition of members' art this morning.
The standard was very good and I purchased a lovely painting of the Misterton lock by Pam Seymour. I will be displaying this in my office as I want to create a collection of local scenes by local artists on my walls.
The exhibition remains open for the rest of the day at the Church Room in Misterton

๐ I visited Creswell Crags today with Natalie Fleet MP to celebrate ยฃ184,705 of new funding from the Government's Museum Estate Development Fund.
Creswell Crags is a very special place. It has some of the only Ice Age cave art in Britain, and shows how people lived thousands of years ago.
๐๏ธ This funding will help to protect the Crags, supporting learning, and bringing more visitors to the area. It means future generations will be able to enjoy it for many years to come.

โค I was really pleased to visit the Aurora Centre in Worksop on Monday as I joined the teams, local groups, and volunteers who have helped to renovate the Aurora Charity shop.
๐ The Aurora Charity supports patients and their families during some of the hardest moments in their life. It was a pleasure to meet and chat with everyone involved in this renovation.

Today I will be meeting the DWP, North Notts College and Bassetlaw District Council because I am concerned that there are too many young people out of work, whether they are graduates or school leavers who have not found employment. One in nine young people aged between 18-24 living in Bassetlaw fall into this category.
The Welfare State was created to support people in greatest need from free health care to a guaranteed pension, but it must also play a key role in ensuring that those who can work do so.
The Government have announced new interventions targeted at young people aged between 18-24 to encourage businesses to hire and to guarantee a job if they have been unemployed for more than six months.
Work does not just mean money in your pocket, but it expands horizons, builds confidence and opportunities, creates friendship groups and sets people up for life.
I know that if someone has not been in work by the age of 24, the likelihood of a life time on benefits is very high. This is unacceptable and cannot be tolerated.
Below is Secretary of State, Pat McFadden's recent speech on this very important matter.
The Government has committed to the following interventions:
Youth Guarantees: The UK government is introducing a 25-hour/week, six-month paid work placement for 18โ21 year olds on Universal Credit for 18 months, aimed at bridging the gap between school and employment.
Targeted Training and Education: Promoting vocational training and apprenticeships, particularly for those with low qualifications, is crucial.
Early Intervention and Support: Identifying young people at risk of becoming NEET (Not in Education, Employment, or Training) early, often before they leave school.
Employer Engagement and Subsidies: Providing incentives to employers for taking on young trainees or employees has proven effective, especially in crucial sectors like construction and technology.
Integrated Support Services: Addressing holistic needs, such as mental health support, emotional resilience, and soft skills training, is increasingly a key component to help young people secure, and maintain, employment.
