It was great to meet with the team at McDonald's on Mills Way, Worksop today to discuss their new Work Placement Programme.

🍔The programme consists of a five-day work experience placement for young people aged 16–19, offering hands-on experience in restaurant operations and a valuable insight into how the workplace functions. Participants will gain experience in customer service, food production, teamwork, communication and much more.

✨It's so important that our young people have opportunities available to them as they leave education and enter the world of work. Programmes like this help build confidence, develop practical skills and provide real-life experience that can make a significant difference when applying for future jobs or training opportunities. By working together with business, we can help ensure that our young people have the support, guidance and opportunities they need to achieve their full potential and take their first steps towards a successful career.

⛏On Tuesday, I met with Trustees from the BCSSS, who provided an update on the important work they have been undertaking on behalf of members.

The Trustees have been engaging directly with Ministers to secure the best possible final deal for BCSSS members, with the aim of ensuring members receive a surplus from the scheme.

They also stressed that time is running short. The clock is ticking, and a decision on this matter is needed as soon as possible to provide certainty and allow progress to be made.

I would like to thank the Trustees and local members for their continued dedication and hard work in representing members' interests throughout this process and I will continue to follow developments closely.

It was a pleasure to catch up with Helen from Wonderland Bookshop in Parliament today as she attended an event as part of the The Bookseller Association's Independent Bookshop Week.

📖 I also feel incredibly lucky that Bassetlaw is home to the wonderful Retford Book Festival, running till the 14th June.

📚Books aren't just a way to pass time, but a place where imaginations can run wild, and having independent bookshops like Wonderland allow us, and our children to experience that magic. ✨

I was so pleased to join so many volunteers and community groups at the Bassetlaw Community and Voluntary Service - BCVS Volunteer Awards last Friday.

I was kindly asked to announce the winners of the
'Volunteer Organisation of the Year' and the 'Young Volunteer Award', and I want to congratulate From The Heart Charity who provide hope and support to vulnerable children and young adults across Bassetlaw, and to Lexi Crooks for her dedication and exceptional commitment to our community as a Bassetlaw Volunteer.

I also want to congratulate all the winners from the day who contribute so much to our communities, looking after some of our most vulnerable friends and family, and making Bassetlaw an even better place to live. 🫂
