This month has been big for Bassetlaw, which is now firmly on the map. A raft of new funding announcements will improve our towns, support families, invest in education, and protect our local heritage. It is great news for our area and proof that Bassetlaw is firmly on the map. First, a £20m plan to […]
People in Bassetlaw tell me they want to see busy high streets, safe town centres, and honest businesses thriving. But in recent years, I am concerned about the rise in the number of vape shops and barbers, and the organised crime that may be behind them. You have probably seen it yourself. A vape shop […]
I am getting a huge number of messages from people about potholes across Bassetlaw. Our roads are falling apart and it cannot go on like this. Many drivers tell me they are worried about damage to their cars. They say they have to swerve to avoid deep holes in the road. People are facing huge […]
Crime and anti-social behaviour blight the lives of decent, hard-working people across Bassetlaw. Tackling it has been one of my top priorities since day one, and I want to pay tribute to our local police for the real progress they have made over the past year. Since being elected as your MP, I have stayed […]
On 5th April 1979, a young man called Tony Dykes was shot dead by an IRA sniper. Tony was from Harworth. His mum, Kathleen, now in her 90s, has lived with the pain for more than 40 years and she has never stopped fighting for a national memorial for all of those killed in Northern […]

📢 Last week, it was announced that mayors across England will, for the first time, receive a share of the income tax raised in their areas.
🏘️ This is the biggest transfer of power from Westminster in a generation. It means regional mayors will have more control over things like jobs, transport, housing, and other public services.
💷 It also means that when local economies grow, they will keep more of that money, giving local leaders, like Mayor Claire, more power to invest in the things that matter most to people here in the East Midlands.

I have been contacted by several residents about reports online that the operator of the ice cream van on Retford Market Square has been informed by Bassetlaw District Council that he may no longer trade on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays with immediate effect.
I know that the ice cream van has traded here for many years without issue and I am therefore very disappointed and surprised to learn of this decision.
I will be contacting Bassetlaw District Council urgently to understand the reason for this and I will be pressing the case for this decision to be reversed as soon as possible.
