This week, I raised with the Prime Minister the issue of a man in Worksop whose sonโ€™s arm was badly broken when he was knocked off his bicycle by an off-road biker speeding on the pavement. The biker was dressed in black, with no number plate and was totally unidentifiable. The young boy no longer […]

Last week, Parliament voted on the Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill. I received hundreds of emails, campaign cards, and letters, and there was a huge response to my online survey. I respect the strongly held beliefs on both sides, and I am grateful to everyone who shared their deeply personal experiences with me. […]

The UK introduced the worldโ€™s first fur farming ban over 20 years ago. Despite this historic step, it is estimated that one million animals worth of fur is still imported here annually. I have joined over 50 cross-party MPs and Peers at an important Parliamentary event, supported by singer-songwriter Will Young, to call for an […]

On Friday 29 November, Parliament will be debating and voting on the Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill. This is a Bill to allow adults who are terminally ill, subject to safeguards and protections, to request and be provided with assistance to end their own life. It is appropriate that the debate on these […]

Today, I spoke in Parliament about the STEP fusion programme and the positive benefits this will bring to Bassetlaw. In 2020, the UK Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA) determined that West Burton, a coal burning power station which is currently being decommissioned, will be the site for the first fusion energy prototype plant. Fusion has been […]

Misogyny in Schools Jo White MP https://www.jowhite.uk/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/My-Movie-1-Medium.mov I, like many mothers, had to bring up my daughters to be cautious of men. Sadly, many of our daughters still have to learn the hard way. Tackling the attitudes and beliefs that lead to violence against women should begin in childhood whilst in school. Today, I asked […]

๐ŸŽ† Fireworks play an important part in celebrations, with millions of people enjoying them every year. But many people who contact me are also concerned about the noise, safety risks, and the distress they can cause to people and animals.

The Government has already taken steps to promote the safe and responsible use of fireworks. However, many people have told me that these measures do not go far enough.

I've heard from pet owners, veterans, emergency service workers and others about their concerns around firework use, and these experiences all help to shape the next steps.

The Government is now asking for your views on possible changes to fireworks laws, with the aim of reducing problems like excessive noise and anti-social behaviour whilst still allowing fireworks to be enjoyed at important celebrations.

Across Bassetlaw, we know that good jobs change lives, and every young person deserves the opportunity to build a successful future.

That's why I welcome the Government's plans to change the way public contracts are awarded. Companies bidding for major government contracts will now be expected to demonstrate how they'll create local jobs, offer training and work experience, and help tackle skills shortages.

With too many young people not in education, employment or training, every pound of taxpayer cash should help to create opportunities in every region - not to just deliver on a contract.

By backing businesses that invest in local people, we can strengthen our economy, support the next generation into good jobs and ensure growth is felt in every part of our community.
